Happy Birthday Captain Cool

We all call him by different names & recognize him differently but we all know what is he to the Indian Cricket & what will he remain for us. He is the only Indian Captain to win all the ICC Trophies & first Wicket-Keeper in ODI’s to achieve the feat of affecting 100 stumpings. Born in year 1981 on 7th July, who led Indian Team from 2007 to 2016 and the only Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to Realise India’s Dream of winning another World Cup. But it all started way back in 2004 when Dhoni or we usually call him Mahi bhai started his career, he debuted against Bangladesh in Bangladesh and got run-out on his very first ball and did’nt perform well in the series but still he was selected for Pakistan’s tour of India, after a string of low scores he was promoted up the order in his 5th ODI match and he made sensational 148 runs off 123 balls which was the highest score for a Indian keeper-batsman and eventually he broke his own record by smashing 183 runs off 145 balls in the 2nd innings while chasing a target of 299 against Srilanka in Jaipur and thus aggregated a totally 346 runs in the series and earned Man of the Series award. Again Dhoni was terrific in his first Pakistan tour in end of 2006 and thus India won that series 4-1.After a Shocking World Cup campaign in 2007, Mahi(Dhoni) ws handed the Captaincy of a young team for first T-20 WC which was held in South Africa and Dhoni became the first Captain after Kapil Dev to win a WC. The turning point came when Dhoni was handed Test Captaincy in 2008 when Kumble retired from Test Cricket, Dhoni was the Vice- Captain of the team. The 2008 CB series in Australia was the main turning point for the Indian team where they became confident of beating every team and Dhoni played a crucial role throughout in this series. Dhoni took his first wicket in 2009. He bowled Travis Dowlin of West Indies during Champions Trophy. He topped ICC ODI ranking for several months in 2009 and previously he had topped the ICC ODI ranking way back in 2006, he replaced Ponting at that time. Dhoni became Joint highest run-scorer with Ponting in 2009, he scored 1198 runs in 24 innings at an average of 70.43. Later on in 2011, Dhoni became the Second Indian Captain to win a 50 over WC and also it was first time a host nation won WC in their home, Dhoni scored unbeaten 91 runs in the chase of 274 runs and he finished the match with a huge SIX and made India win a WC after 28 years. Also under his Captaincy India won the 2013 Champions Trophy in a tight final against England, thus making Dhoni the first Captain to win all ICC Trophies. In year 2015 he lead India to another WC semi-final but failed to regain the Cup by loosing in the semi’s and in 2016 also India went on to play semi-final of T-20 WC but failed to qualify for the finals. A home ODI series loss aginst South Africa in 2015 and a tightly fought home ODI series against New-Zealand led to alot of criticism and eventually he gave his Captaincy in January 2017 but in year 2016 he led the Indian Team to the semi-finals of World T-20 2016, unfortunately India crashed out of the tournament. He has recieved heaps of praises from legends of the game, once Sunil Gavaskar said when asked about his favourite moment of Dhoni’s career: When I die, the last thing I want to see is the Six Dhoni hit in the 2011 World Cup Finals. Then comes year 2018 & MSD 2.0, this year in IPL he amassed everybody with his skills and rejuvenated and led Chennai Super Kings to 3rd Title victory. He himself led the side with a example by scoring 455 runs in 15 innings with 79 against Kings XI Punjab being his highest along with a strike rate of over 150 & at an average of over 75. This Years’s IPL was only about Mahi Bhai and we the fans cherished his comeback as Captain. Without any doubt he is still the best finisher in the world and is on number 4th in the list of most runs scored by Indian batsmans in ODI’s and currently at 14 in ICC ODI Rankings. He has 16298 International runs in 495 innings in 499 matches at an average of 45.02 with 16 Centuries & 102 Half-Centuries with a highest of 224 which came in Test matches & 183 which came in ODI’s. He is one of the most important player for India for the upcoming World Cup. He is the 3rd Indian Cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (644) & Rahul Dravid (509) to Play 500 International Matches.Best of Luck Mahi bhai for 500th International game and we hope you score big.

On this Auspicious Day, we wish you a very Happy Birthday Legend. We wish your every day to be filled with lots of love, laughter, happiness and the warmth of sunshine.
