MI vs CSK, Season Opener: Preview

After 10 successful years of India’s most loved tournament, the teams are ready and gearing up to enter a new era with the 11th season. This season also marks the comeback of Chennai and Rajasthan after serving a ban of two years. It can’t get bigger than this, Mumbai-Chennai clash as the season opener. Over the years it has been a kind of norm that whenever these two sides play, the things get heat up and the matches end as thrillers.

Taking a look at CSK-MI rivalry, MI has won 13 matches out of the 24 which they have played against CSK, it is evident that MI has a upper-hand over CSK but still Suresh Raina is the highest run getter from the two teams with a strike rate of over 140 along with a century. With Mumbai being the current Champions overcoming them will be a big challenge for the Chennai who are coming back after a gap of two years.

Pitch and Ground Conditions:

The match is set to be played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The pitch is expected to be a batting paradise and spinners can be crucial in the first half of the game. Also, dew is expected to come in the 2nd half of the game.

Both Chennai and Mumbai are batting heavy sides with quality of batsman like Raina, Dhoni, Du Plessis, Rohit, Ishan Kishan, Pollard respectively. Chennai has a good spin attack than Mumbai, whereas the Mumbai based franchise has a good pace bowling attack than Chennai. Both the teams are full of All-rounders with Chennai edging out Mumbai on the basis of current-form of their players in this particular department.

Chennai Super Kings-

Talking about CSK’s playing XI, they are likely to field a spin heavy side due to combination of their squad and also Chennai is set to miss services of Du Plessis and Mitchell Santner. Santner is out beacuse of a Knee injury and the reason behind Du Plessis absence is still unknown. Also, Dhoni is expected to bat up the order and delay in Mark Wood’s arrival has made a big impact on CSK’s selection call.

Mumbai Indians-

The home team is expected to feature a new opening combination this year with Rohit expected to back at the top, also we might see both Hardik and Krunal batting at 4 and 5 and Pollard backing them up at 6. With a weak spin attack Mumbai might give Akila Dhananjaya a go ahead of other options due to his unplayable bowling and the fact that most of the players in the CSK have not played him yet.
