CSK’s Redemption and Virat’s Big Jump

Recently the list of retained players was announced by BCCI which left many people strandered in confusion, who picked whom.

CSK:

As expected CSK retained their ace players MS.Dhoni and Raina for 15 Crore and 11 Crore respectively but their decision to retain Jadeja for 7 Crore left some people amazed and some confused. But this decision has paved way for them to select two Overseas players using RTM during auction and the probables for that are Dwayne Bravo and B.Mccullum.

Purse left: 49 Crore

RCB:

On comparison with CSK, RCB too retained their ace players Virat and AB De Villiers for 17 Crore and 11 Crore resp., thus making Virat the highest paid player for IPL 2018 (till now). They also retained uncapped Sarfraz Khan for 1.75 Crore as their 3rd player and the RTM probables are KL.Rahul and Kedar Jadhav.

Purse left: 47 Crore

KKR:

Kolkata meanwhile retained two overseas players Russel and Narine for 7 and 8.5 Crore resp. and thus completing their quota to retain two overseas players and the RTM probables are Kuldeep Yadav, Utthapa and Manish Pandey. The Notable omission from the team is their Captain Gautum Gambhir who will not be retained by the franchise as quoted by a source.

Royals:

The comeback team Rajasthan Royals renamed as Royals, retained only Captain Steve Smith for 12 Crore and left theirselves 3 chances to retain through RTM and the RTM probables are Rahane, Dhawal Kulkarni.

KXIP:

Puniab only retained Axar Patel for 6.75 Crore and can retain maximum of 3 players through RTM and probables for RTM are Stoinis, Miller, Sandeep Sharma

SRH:

Hyderabad meanwhile retained Warner and Bhuvneshwar for 12 Crore and 8.5 Crore resp. The 3 RTM probables are Shikhar, Rashid Khan and Williamson.

MI:

Mumbai retained Rohit, Hardik and Bumrah for whopping 15, 11 and 7 Crore resp. and will be raring to retain Pollard and Buttler through RTM.

DD:

Delhi’s retention was unexpected as they retained Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Chris Morris and also named Ponting as their head coach, they retained the 3 players for 8, 7, 7.1 Crore resp. and they will definitely retain De Kock or Rabada through RTM and they might opt for Sanju Samson through 2nd RTM.

Purse left: 47 Crore

Overall the pre-auction Retention was a tricky but successful for many franchises but eventually left question marks for Punjab and Rajasthan who clicked the reboot button for a fresh start. It will be interesting to see how the teams shape up when the auction takes place on 27 and 28 January.
