Ind vs Nz, 2nd ODI: Preview
A defeat and a hand-full of problems, this is what Indian team is facing right now. After winning the toss, India batted and scored a below par 280 on the back of a century by Virat. This was century No. 31 for Virat in ODI’s. The second innings became a disaster for India because of poor fielding and field placements, New Zealand completed the chase in 49 overs on the back of a 200 run stand between Latham and Taylor. Latham went on to score a century and Taylor scored 95 runs, the most disappointing factor for India was spin bowling, which actually contributed to India’s defeat.
Ground Conditions and Pitch:
The ground is situated in outskirts of Pune, on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. It has a capacity of holding over 37,000 people. The pitch here usually is a batting pardise but spinners tend to take charge as the game progresses. The last time India played here, the game was a high scoring game against England and Virat, Kedar both scored centuries batting second.
After a not so good game the Indian camp looked calma and relaxed. The main reason for India’s defeat was again in-ability of spinners to take the wickets in middle overs and fielding will also be a concern for the management. The only change may be replacing Chahal by Axar, to add some variation to the attack and rest of the team is expected to be same.
