Ind vs Sri, 3rd ODI: Preview
After a hard fought win in 2nd ODI, India will look to seal the series and Srilanka will target to atleast be in contention of winning the series by winning the next ODI. With a heap of injuries already in Srilankan camp, their Captain Upul Tharanga has been banned for next two games due to slow over rate and Kapugedra has been appointed as the Interim Captain of the team, also Chandimal and Thrimanne has been called to the side to replace banned Tharanga and injured Gunathilka. Chandimal is expected to bat at no. 4 and Thrimanne will open the innings alongside Dickewella. Also Hardik Pandya experienced Cramps during 2nd ODI but he is expected to be fit in time for the 3rd game.
Coming back to the previous match again Srilanka made a good start but failed to score runs at the end and thanks to Kapugedra and Siriwardhena who made handy contribution to take Srilanka to 236 in 50 overs with Bumrah taking 4 wickets for India and a total of 8 wicket fell. Before the start of 2nd innings rain intervened and match was reduced to 47 overs and India needing 231 according to Duckworth Lewis Stern Method. India made a good start and openers played handy knocks, Rohit Sharma scored his first double digit score against Srilanka in Srilanka, the first wicket fell on 109 and then the collapse occurred, India was reduced to 131 for 7 and from that point Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar played brilliantly and exactly made a 100 run partnership which is highest for 8th wicket in ODI’s. Bhuvneshwar scored his maiden fifty and Dhoni remained unbeaten on 45. But apart from everthing Akila Dhananjaya was the key player his superb spell almost took the game away from India when he ran through the Indian middle order and took 6 wickets in that spell. Overall it was India’s batting order change that lead to this collapse. No change is expected in Indian team, until and unless someone is injured or not fit.
