India’s tour of Srilanka: 1st Test Preview

After a good tour of Windies and a new head coach, Team India moves to Srilanka to play a full tour after a gap of 3 years. The 50 days tour starts with a 3 match Test series which will be followed by a 5 match ODI series and a lone T-20. Coming on to the Test series, India look far better than Srilanka in all the three departments. Srilanka was to play against India with a new Test Captain Dinesh Chandimal but unfortunately he is out for the first two test matches due to a medical condition and Rangna Herath will lead the side in his absence. With India going with a full strength test squad in the series it will be interesting to see who will replace Karun Nair in the playing eleven as he has been dropped from the side and almost same squad has been sent which played against Australia earlier this year and the only absentee is Vijay who is ruled out due to a wrist injury and Dhawan replaced him in the squad.

The Indian Team is more than ready for every challenge and this was justified in the  practice match against Srilanka Board President XI as India bundled them for a partly 187 with Kuldeep taking 4 and Jadeja taking 3 wickets, also comeback man Shami took 2 wickets on the First day and in reply India declared on 321 for 9 with Virat and Rahul making half centuries but India still have concerns about their opening pair with Mukund getting out on a duck in the game, it has raised eyebrows over his selection. But overall India can pull this series without any serious problems. The series begins with the first test on 26th July at Galle International Stadium.

India’s is expected to go with a 6-5 combination which means 6 batsman and 5 bowlers. It looks like Hardik Pandya might get a chance to play in thr first test and looks like India might drop Ashwin as he looks out if form.  The selection team totally depends on the pitch and the conditions on that day.
