ICC CT 2017: India vs Srilanka Preview
The Defending Champions started with a thumping win against the arch rivals Pakistan in a rain affected game. While batting first India made 319 for a loss of 3 wickets. Rohit and Shikhar both played superbly and gave India a good platform with a 100 plus score then Virat and Yuvraj made healthy contributions with the bat and finally a cameo from Hardik Pandya ensured India a 300 plus target. Eventually the score was adjusted due to Duckworth Lewis Rule and Pakistan was given a target of 324 in 48 overs and further score was adjusted to 294 from 41 overs. India bowled beautifully and thrashed Pakistan with 124 runs in the end. It was a all round performance from the team but performed poorly in the fielding department as they dropped some important catches and did misfields, the only highlight was the run-out of Shoaib Malik by Jadeja.
On other hand Srilanka lost their match against South Africa by a margin of 96 runs. Srilanka played with 4 bowlers and 8 batters in the match but it went worst as their ace spinner Prasanna went for 72 runs in 10 overs with a solitary wicket. Though Srilanka bowled well and restricted South Africa under 300 but eventually poor batting led to their demise.
Overall as we compare both the teams India look more settled than Srilanka, with a good bowling attack and a batting Powerhouse. It is a must win clash for Srilanka to stay alive in the tournament and also adding to their problems they will be out of the services of their stand in Captain Upul Tharanga due to a two match ban because of slow over rate in the clash against South Africa. With Angelo Mathews declared fit for the India clash is a big boost for Srilanka but things look bleak that Srilanka will qualify for the next round of the tournament. Also a lot will depend on the Pakistan vs South Africa clash tomorrow as it will be a must win clash for Pakistan to stay alive and also both Srilanka and India will be hoping that South Africa knock out Pakistan to make the group easy.
India is slated to play Srilanka on Thursday at the Kennington Oval, London. With Australia vs Bangladesh game being washed out in Oval on Monday the chances of a full game look bleak but both the teams will be hoping that they get a full game. The Pitch is expected to be same which was used for Australia vs Bangladesh clash, also the Pitch is expected to slow down a bit but will assist the batsman more than the bowlers. Overall it depends on the rain god’s. Fingers Crossed for a good clash.
