Ind VS Pak: The Individual Battles and Familiar Ground
With less than 36 hours left for the Big Clash between the two arch rivals India and Pakistan, whole world is looking forward to the epic clash. Also some of the individual battles between players are pumping up the audience. So let’s have a look on the individual battles which we might see tomorrow.
Virat vs Junaid
Junaid has dismissed Virat in 3 out of the 4 times they have met and Virat has scored just two runs in 22 balls against the speedster. The last time these two teams played each other in a One Day International was way back in 2015 in ICC World Cup. Virat last played against Junaid in year 2012-13 when Pakistan toured India for a limited over series.
Shoaib Malik vs Ashwin
The legendary Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik have played 247 ODI’s for Pakistan and currently he is the most experienced player in Pakistan team. On other hand R.Ashwin returns to competitive cricket after a long time, as he missed Indian Premiere League due to injury. Both players have a lot of experience and also have the ability to reverse their roles, as Shoaib can be handy with ball and Ashwin can bat a little which provides an extra edge for both the sides. Last time they met each other in Champions Trophy Malik was lbw out by jadeja but it was the pressure maintained by ashwin which eventually led to his wicket. Also Malik has a top score of 143 and an average of 35.50. His role is to bind the middle order in a situation of collapse. Ashwin has played 105 ODI’s and his economy is 4.91,which is considered as good in context of the time when 300 plus totals are a norm.
Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Brimmingham
Also, it will be second time that Edgbaston will hold this Big Clash. The first time Edgbaston hosted these two teams in Champions Trophy was in 2013, which India eventually won by DLS (Duckworth Lewis System) because it was a rain marred game. India bundled Pakistan easily and was given a target of 102 runs in 22 overs which India achieved with ease. Also, Edgbaston hosted the Australia vs New Zealand clash last time in Champions Trophy 2013 which was washed out due to rain and also the same ground hosted the much awaited Trans-Tasman rivalary but match got abandon due to persistent rain in the second innings. Another cause of worry than rain is the Pitch which is too flat and didn’t generate any swing for the bowlers in both the innings of the Australia New Zealand game. Also, Srilanka made 350 plus in the warm-up game here at Edgbaston which New Zealand chased with ease though making it a one sided game and from last time when they met in Champions Trophy, Pakistan have made a lot of changes but still lack the experience and India have a edge as they have almost same set of players which played in last Champions Trophy with slight change in Captaincy.
Both teams will feature with a new Captain this time.
Yuvraj Singh is making his comeback after almost 11 years in Champions Trophy.
Shoaib Malik will be playing his sixth Champions Trophy, which is most by any player.
India have a edge over Pakistan in all other ICC tournaments but Pakistan has a Scoreline of 2-1 against India in Champions Trophy.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his ODI and T-20 debut against Pakistan and Mohammad Hafeez was his first ODI wicket.
